Four held for hunting wild boar in Dharmapuri district

Dharmapuri: Four people were arrested for hunting a wild boar in Thenkal Hills reserve forest on Sunday. The accused have been identified as K Selvaraj, 45, V Ramesh, 33, S Ravi, 35, and T Manikandan, 39, all from Kathirampatty village. Dharmapuri district forest officer (DF) K Rajangam said he received a tip-off that some people were illegally hunting wild animals in the forest area adjacent to Karimangalam on Sunday. The DFO then formed a team led by the Palacode forest range officer Natarajan, forester Kathiravan, guards Dinesh, Murugan, and Krishnaveni to investigate the information, with a focus on the Thenkal Hills reserve forest. “Our team found three people who had shared the wild boar meat among themselves,” the DFO said. He added that during inquiry, the team came to know that Selvaraj had hunted the boar using a net and given the meat to Ramesh, Ravi, and Manikandan. Based on their confession statement, forest officials arrested the four and seized the meat from them. They also imposed a fine of 20,000 on each of the accused. A case has been registered and further probe is on.

Chhattisgarh forest department releases rescued monitor lizards into wild

The Forest Department of Chhattisgarh released four rescued monitor lizards into the jungle, marking the first such release in the state's history. A 50-year-old farmer from Mandaria village was attacked by a tiger while mowing grass in his sugarcane field, located 10km from the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. The victim sustained head injuries but was rescued by locals. Forest officials are monitoring the animal to confirm if it is a tiger or leopard, and will provide financial support to the victim.
