NEW DELHI: A private Omni bus caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler and overturning on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway near Sankari on Saturday morning.

The rider of the two-wheeler, identified as 60-year-old P. Periyasamy from Vaikuntam, died instantly in the accident.

The bus, which was en route from Chennai to Coimbatore, lost control when the driver swerved to the right to avoid hitting the bike, causing it to overturn and subsequently catch fire.

Over 20 passengers managed to escape without injury before the vehicle was completely engulfed by flames.

Following the incident, police, led by Sankari DSP S. Raja, arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations and have since opened an investigation into the matter.
