Young Indians

(Yi), an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised an

awareness

programme on health hazards caused by

excessive honking

here on Tuesday. Assistant city police commissioner,

M Barathi

, inaugurated the drive.

Police personnel and volunteers of Young Indians participated in the campaign. They talked to the drivers and distributed pledge cards, besides sticking stickers on the vehicles. They also distributed chocolates to the riders for wearing helmets as a token of appreciation.

said excessive honking adds to noise pollution and can cause gradual hearing loss, besides shooting up blood pressure and nervous stress.
