16 drugs of Himachal found sub-standard

Kullu: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has found 16 drugs manufactured in Himachal to be sub-standard. According to the CDSCO drug alert for January, the samples of drugs, which failed to meet the quality standards, were manufactured in Baddi, Kala Amb, Nalagarh and Una.The drugs are used in treating nerve pain caused by diabetes, bad cholesterol, hay fever, bacterial and fungal infections, cold allergies, joint and muscle pain etc. These also include weight loss capsules, Vitamin D and Calcium tablets. The CDSCO had tested a total of 1,348 drug samples from all over the country and found 67 sub-standard. Officials of the Drug Control Administration (DCA) said orders have been issued to recall all the drugs that failed the CDSCO test. They added that drug companies, whose drugs failed the test, have also been issued notices and their units would be inspected. In CDSCO’s drug alert for December, as many as 27 drugs, manufactured in Himachal, had failed to clear the quality test and in November, 27 samples were declared as sub-standards, including 14 of a single pharma unit, Nixi Laboratories, which is based in Kala Amb, Sirmaur. tnn
