Sukhu inaugurates ₹9cr RKMV new bldg

Kullu: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Block-C building of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV) in Shimla. It has been built at a cost of Rs 9 crore.After the inauguration, the CM gave away prizes during the annual prize distribution ceremony of the college for 2023-24. The students put up a cultural programme on the occasion. The CM also announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh to the college. He made a slew of other promises, including the conversion of all classrooms into smart ones, construction of a new hostel with full funding and a provision of Rs 50 lakh for building a digital library and repairing the science block. He said the state govt had provided Rs 6 crore for the construction of Block-C. Sukhu said the goal of his govt was not to merely open new schools and colleges, but also to ensure that these were equipped with qualified teachers and all the essential facilities. He expressed concern over Himachal Pradesh ranking 21st in the country in the quality of education offered. The CM affirmed that the govt would prohibit teacher transfers during the academic session and develop policies to address future challenges. The govt is establishing Rajiv Gandhi day-boarding schools in a phased manner across all the assembly constituencies so as to enhance the quality of education in the rural areas, the CM added.He said the govt has increased the marriageable age for girls from 18 to 21 years and also amended the 51-year-old Himachal Pradesh Land Holding Ceiling Act, which allows adult daughters to claim a separate 150-bigha unit of ancestral property. Furthermore, the state govt has introduced 30% reservation for women in police recruitment, said Sukhu.The CM lauded RKMV College for its rich history and said the college had played a crucial role in producing distinguished alumni, such as Vijaya Thakur, Himachal’s first Indian Foreign Service officer and IPS officer Tilotama Verma.

TN govt to recruit full-time faculty members for govt law colleges through TRB

Teacher dies by suicide on govt school premises

A government teacher in Barwani district reportedly committed suicide at a school. Praveen Nide, an alcohol addict facing complaints of absenteeism, hanged himself at a higher secondary school building. Authorities had taken action against him, and inquiries were ongoing. No suicide note was found, and the investigation continues.
