Combine all water laws into one: CM to depts

Kullu: CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday directed officials to make an umbrella act combining all water-related laws, for which an expert committee would be formed.Chairing a meeting in Shimla, the CM assured that the present state govt would protect the interests of the people of Himachal.Highlighting the state’s efforts to improve the financial situation, he said, “It is due to the fiscal reforms that we were able to release 4% DA instalment for govt employees and pensioners. This follows a 7% DA given earlier, whereas the previous BJP govt neglected the interest of the state leading to an investment drain.”Sukhu promised that under the present govt, the state’s resources would be properly utilised and ongoing court cases would be pursued. The CM also acknowledged the challenges posed by global warming and climate change, necessitating studies on increasing cloud bursts.Chief secretary Prabodh Saxena, advocate general Anup Rattan, additional chief secretary Onkar Chand Sharma, principal secretary Devesh Kumar, among others, were present in the meeting.
