Himachal govt planning to rank colleges: Sukhu

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt is considering ranking its 138 colleges and a formula for this is being prepared, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Saturday.Presiding over a programme of the alumni association at the Center of Excellence Govt Degree College, Sanjauli, Sukhu said the state govt wanted to strengthen the facilities in the colleges and all other govt educational institutions.The state govt is emphasising on providing quality education to the students of the Himachal and there is no dearth of funds for this work, he said.The CM, meanwhile, said the arts block, girls’ hostel and parking at the Sanjauli college complex would be built in two years, adding that he would come to lay the foundation stones for these works. Sukhu also announced Rs 50 lakh for the alumni association. Many changes will be witnessed in the next budget where special emphasis will be on the field of education, he assured.Recalling the old days, the CM said: “I will always remember the time spent in this college. My media advisor Naresh Chauhan contested elections against me in college, but I won. All student organisations used to go on strike for their demands, but everyone’s thinking was to strengthen the institution.” Other alumni of the college, Justice Sandeep Sharma of the Himachal Pradesh high court, said the institute had contributed significantly in giving a new direction to his career, for which he would always be indebted to it. tnn

State govt issues chargesheet to MGM Medical College dean
