: Probe being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in

Kotkhai

gangrape and murder case has been questioned by the

Gudiya Nyay Manch

with its co-convener

Vijender Mehra

expressing doubt over the arrest of a charani (wood cutter) made by CBI in the case. He questioned whether it is possible for the simple wood cutter to befool CBI and state police for 10 months. He said that people are finding it hard to digest the arrest made by investigating agency.

“Nobody is ready to believe the CBI theory,” said Mehra in a statement issued on Wednesday. He said that during earlier hearing, High Court had reprimanded CBI and had directed its Director for appearance after which investigation was speeded up all of a sudden.

He said that CBI probe since beginning has remained doubtful and Gudiya Nyay Manch is still of the firm belief that influential people are involved in this case and efforts are being made to save them. He warned CBI to do its job honestly and not to follow the suit of Himachal police. He said that already police and CBI have faced embarrassment in the case and people have lost faith in both these organisations.

Mehra said that in Kotkhai case CBI should not meet the fate like Arushi murder case. He said that CBI should probe the case seriously so noose could be tightened around the accused and justice is provided to “Gudiya”. He also requested that letter written by Head Constable Mohan Lal, arrested in custodial killing, from jail to Governor and state government should also be brought under the ambit of investigation.

He also demanded that three policemen from Theog and Matiana accompanying DSP to Kotkhai police station on the day of custodial killing should also be brought under investigation. He said that by connecting all the links case could be resolved.

Mohan Lal was among the arrested cops in

Suraj Singh

custodial death case. In an alleged letter written from jail in February this year he had raised question on CBI probe. In the alleged letter, he had narrated the entire incident leading to the death of Suraj Singh inside police lock up. He had claimed that before his arrest he had revealed everything to CBI team but his statement was not considered.

He had also alleged that CBI has not brought out the truth in custodial death case so fresh probe should be conducted through some other investigation agency. He had said that instead of innocent people, real accused should be punished.
