Surat: Being the elder of the two sisters, eight-year-old Devanshi Sanghvi would have been the owner of a multi-crore diamond company in the next 10 years. She would have been travelling places as the family-owned company has offices in all important cities of the world.
But Devanshi will be leaving behind all these luxuries and embracing monkhood in the city on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a grand procession with elephants, horses, and camels, to celebrate the occasion, was organized in the city.
Earlier the family organized a similar procession in Belgium too. The family runs Sanghvi and Sons, one of the oldest diamond-making companies with a turnover running to crores. Her father Dhanesh Sanghvi is the only son of his father Mohan and has two daughters Devanshi and five-year-old Kavya.
Dhanesh, his wife Ami, and both daughters follow a simple lifestyle as per religious directives. From a young age, Devanshi followed a strict routine of three-time prayers.
“Devanshi never watched TV, or movies and never went to restaurants or attended marriages. She has participated in 367 diksha events so far,” said a family friend associated with the event.
Devanshi performed a fast at the age of two in Palitana and was determined to take the path of monkhood.
“Despite being owners of a huge business set-up, the family lives a simple life. They have noticed that their daughters want to stay away from all worldly pleasures,” said one of the organizers of the event.
Before being chosen for diksha, Devanshi walked over 600 km with the monks, and after various grueling routines, she was allowed to take up monkhood by her guru. She will be given diksha by Jainacharya Kirtiyashsuriswarji Maharaj.
