SURAT: Accidents involving BRTS and city buses continue unabated in Surat. A BRTS bus knocked down a

on Wednesday. The bus driven by Dixit Patel hit Amar Bahadur Badekha, who suffered injury on his head. After the accident, people pelted stones on the bus and damaged it,

said police.



The accident took place when Badekha, a resident of Panas and driver by profession, was crossing BRTS road near Rupali Canal. Police said that the bus which was moving at speed of 40 km per hour hit Badekha, who was flung in the canal. He was rushed to New Civil Hospital (NCH) where his condition is said to be stable.

People who had gathered at the accident spot beat up the driver, who they alleged was drunk. They also pelted stones on the bus. Khatodara police was called in to control the situation.

According to sources, since inception in 2016, there have been over 230 accidents involving public transport buses of which 55 of them have been fatal.
