Surat: A 28-year-old man accused of murder, who is a history-sheeter, was shot in the leg by police after he attacked officers with a knife during a search operation in Limbayat, hours after he allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy to death on Sunday night.
Police said Rahul Jogi murdered Anurag alias Raj Jagdish Pawar, 17, a resident of Godadara, after an argument over driving on the road. Pawar worked at a mobile repair shop in Surat.
According to police, Pawar was riding a motorcycle with his friend Gopal Rathi on Sunday night to collect payment from a mobile shop when they got into an argument with Jogi near Ganesh Nagar-2. Jogi allegedly abused Pawar and stabbed him twice in the chest, causing fatal injuries.
Pawar was rushed in a 108 ambulance to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
A case was registered at Limbayat police station under Sections 103(1), 118(1) and 296(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, after which teams were formed to trace the accused.
Police said Jogi was later located in the Mithikhadi area. When officers approached him, he allegedly attacked them with a knife, injuring constable Mukesh Bagul on the shoulder.
In self-defence, inspector D D Chauhan fired two rounds from his service revolver, one of which hit Jogi in the right leg. The accused was taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors operated and removed a bullet.
