SURAT: A 45-year-old electrical engineer
ended life
by jumping from eighth floor of an apartment in posh
Vesu area
on Wednesday. He died on the spot and investigation revealed that he had also attempted suicide on Tuesday.
The deceased,
Bharat Jhaveri
, a resident of Sunshine Residency in Vesu, jumped from his eighth floor flat at around 8:30 am. Police sent the body for post mortem and registered an offence of accidental death.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jhaveri was jobless since past few days. He was employed in an industrial unit at
Khajod
and recently lost the job due to some unidentified reasons. His wife Rashmi, a school teacher, told police that Jhaveri was depressed after he lost his job.
She also informed police that Jhaveri went on terrace recently and she brought him down before he could take any drastic step. Later Jhaveri jumped in an underground tank in the apartment and tried to kill self. However, water level was very low in the tank and he survived. He was pulled out by the residents and sent home.
Police informed that so far no other reason than the depression due to job loss has come to light in the case. They are yet to question other family members. Jhaveri is native of Rajasthan.
