SURAT: Organizers of the mass marriage of 236 fatherless girls felicitated widows of the martyrs of Uri attack in Jammu and Kashmir here on Saturday. The widows of the martyrs lighted lamps at the venue of the mass marriage of 236 fatherless girls, who too were felicitated a day before their wedding.

of PP Savani Group, which is the organizer, said, “We had requested Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and got the dates of birth and dates of martyrdom printed on 20 currency notes of Rs1,000 and Rs10 denominations, which were given to the families at the function together with certificates. The brides and grooms were similarly given notes of Rs100 denomination which had their dates of birth printed on them.”

The families of the 20 martyrs were handed over a cheque each of Rs12 lakh by Gujarat minister Jayesh Radadia and other eminent people of the city. PP Savani Group contributed Rs5 lakh towards financial aid for each family of the martyrs while the remaining came from

group, Samvedna Parivar, Tiranga Foundation, Indian Medical Association and other organizations from Bardoli near Surat. PP Savani Group has taken the responsibility of education of the children of the martyrs. The 236 fatherless girls were married off at a grand function on Sunday.
