KALYAN: A 32-year-old man shot and killed his 38-year-old cousin over a long-standing property dispute in Kalyan.

The incident took place on Wednesday night near Nana Pawshe Chowk in Kalyan (East), where Ram confronted Ranjeet and opened fire.

According to the police, both families had been involved in a property dispute in their native village in Uttar Pradesh for several years.

The deceased was identified as Ranjeet Dubey., had multiple criminal cases registered against him, while the accused as Ram Dubey, also had a criminal record.

Ranjeet, injured in the first round of gunfire, attempted to escape by entering a nearby building. However, Ram pursued him inside and fired a second shot, killing him on the spot.

Local residents alerted the Kolsewadi police, who arrived at the scene and arrested the accused. Ranjeet's body was sent to Rukminibai Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Both the victim and the accused were originally from Uttar Pradesh but resided in Kalyan East. Ranjeet operated a pan shop, while Ram worked as a small-scale labour contractor.

Their families had been in dispute over the ownership of ancestral property, leading to frequent altercations, including past confrontations in their native village.

The police have arrested Ram Dubey and are investigating the case further.
