Funds to be given for CCTV and automatic signal: Guardian minister Eknath Shinde

, the guardian minister Eknath Shinde announced the sanctioning of funds for CCTVs and automatic signals to be installed in Thane, on Wednesday.


The traffic safety campaign started last month on January 18 and it was for the first time that the otherwise ‘week’s program’ went up till a month. The campaign concluded at

The guardian minister, also the public works minister Eknath Shinde pointed out how the

vehicular traffic

is increasing in the city and appreciated the work being done by the traffic department in managing the same. He mentioned about the projects that are underway and also the future ones, like – metro 4, Kopri bridge extension, elevated road from Anand Nagar to Saket etc.

“Around 11 per cent of accidents in the world happen on road and in every four minute a person dies , so it becomes crucial for the department and us (MMRDA) to take precautions and make the roads safer and the same is being done. We have sanctioned Rs. 3 crore funds from DPC (district planning committee) funds for automatic signals in the city and to reduce accidents, for surveillance of the same and even to keep tab on any crimes, Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for CCTV’s in Thane – Kasara road,” said Shinde.

The traffic department during the program had also shown audio-visual regarding the history of the traffic department, as to how and when it came into existence in the world, followed by skit and price distribution to the ones who won various programs that were organised during the traffic safety month.
