‘Live separately or face fights’: Harassed over wife’s refusal to cook for family, man jumps in front of running train near Mumbai
KALYAN: A 49-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train between Ambernath and Badlapur railway stations in the early hours of April 3, following a dispute over his wife’s refusal to cook for him and his family.
According to the Kalyan Government Railway Police, the deceased, identified as Ravikant Adangale, took the step around 1 am.
A suicide note was recovered from his pocket at the scene.
In the note, Adangale reportedly blamed his wife Rashmi, mother-in-law Aruna Nirbhavne, and sister-in-law Sunita Rajendra Gaikwad for subjecting him to continuous mental and physical harassment, which he said led him to take the extreme step.
Based on the contents of the note, the Kalyan GRP has registered a case against the three accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 108, 352, and 3(5), for alleged abetment to suicide. Further investigation is underway.
Police said Adangale was employed in a private company and lived with his wife, mother, and sister. He is survived by a 15-year-old child.
Senior police inspector Pandhari Kande said the suicide note pointed to ongoing domestic disputes. The deceased alleged that his wife refused to cook food for him and his family, including his mother and sister, forcing them to eat outside. He also claimed that she did not carry out household responsibilities.
According to police, the wife wanted him to live separately from his mother and sister and stay with her, but he was not willing to do so.
He further alleged that frequent arguments took place and that his wife, along with her mother and sister, harassed him.
“We have registered the case and begun further investigation,” Kande said.
