THANE: A 25-year-old married woman was found dead in Maharashtra’s Kalyan, prompting police to launch a search for her father, an official said on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Gayatri Shinde, was found dead inside her family’s flat in the Parekarwada area of Kalyan (West) on Monday evening. Investigators suspect her father, Vinod Vasaikar, who is currently absconding, was involved in the killing.
According to police, Gayatri had married Akshay Shinde, a resident of Bhiwandi taluka, in November 2025 and had recently come to stay at her parents’ home. Family members reportedly said there had been no visible tension or dispute before the incident.
The family had gone out together on Sunday to watch a film and later visited the nearby Kala Talav area. The situation appeared normal until Monday night, when Gayatri’s mother returned home from work and found the apartment door unlocked.
Police said she discovered her daughter lying in a pool of blood inside the house and immediately informed relatives and the police. A preliminary medical examination suggested the victim was attacked with a sharp object and suffered a fatal injury to the forehead.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the residential building, which allegedly showed Vinod Vasaikar returning home unexpectedly on Monday morning and leaving the premises in a hurry at around 4 pm.
A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s husband. Police said the motive behind the crime remains unclear, as relatives have denied any recent arguments or provocation.
Multiple police teams have been formed to trace the suspect, while investigators continue to examine all possible angles, including family-related issues and the mental condition of the accused.
