following a reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) test done at the premises Monday whose report was made available Tuesday evening, district health officials informed.

Dr Madhav Waghmare, Bhiwandi taluka health officer told TOI, Tuesday evening, they conducted a fresh round of tests of the elders and staff at the old age home the previous day to rule out possibility of any fresh case of infection. “Around 17 cases including four elders and 13 staff and their relatives have tested positive on Tuesday,” said Dr

Waghmare

based on preliminary information.

Dr Ashok Devre Patil of the old age home confirmed the developments adding that the infected patients have been isolated at the facility itself. “We have already fumigated and sanitised the premises and have a back-up team to take care of the elders here. The district health department is also in touch with us and has already declared the area as a containment zone,” he said.

Already 67 inmates and staff including five who were suspected to have been infected have been admitted to the Civil hospital on Sunday. A

RT-PCR

test was done on these admitted patients, which confirmed that 15 elders were tested positive. The RT-PCR was done as these patients had earlier undergone antigen tests, Dr Kailash Pawar informed Tuesday.

Following the Saturday incident where 62 patients were found positive in a single premise, health officials are now conducting micro surveillance in the area and contacting all local medical professionals to get updates about patients with persistent symptoms, said Bhiwandi sub divisional officer B Waghchaure.

The district health officials denied the possibility of any person who returned from overseas to have come in contact with any of the residents at the elderly home recently. Incidentally, the old age home was Covid free during the last two waves.
