THANE: Thane Police investigating the fake call centre which was recently busted by the sleuths have found that the accused were reportedly using bitcoins, cryptocurrencies as well as 16 digits of the gift cards for channelizing the scam money to the accused working at the fake call centre.


The police have mentioned about it in the remand report to court that by using the electronic gadgets—laptops, hard disk, pen drives, accused had used cryptocurrencies.

A senior police official informed that they are investigating the financial trail and the transactions are under scrutiny with the help of technical experts and cyber experts. "This seems to be a tip of ice berg and further probe is underway," said a police officer.

The police said that they are presently analyzing the money trail of the accused that could be linked to Multi-million fake call centre accused

Sagar Thakkar

alias Shaggy.

Remand report to court mentions that the police officials during the probe have found a domestic wire transfer receipt in the mobile phone of an accused with the name of foreign national of 30000 dollars to a US based company and that the receipt was sent to a virtual number of an arrested accused.

, arrested in the case, had downloaded an application that deals in bitcoins. Also the police have found mobile searches pertaining to gift cards that according to police suspect that they had redeemed the 16 digits numbers by scamming the US citizens.

On the other hand, the police have processed for the cancellation of the bail of the main accused

who was earlier arrested in a fake call centre busted in 2016 along with

Thakkar

alias Shaggy.

It was last month, the Thane police raided the fake call centre and arrested 11 accused after the tip-off to

Datta Karale

, the joint commissioner of police. The police suspect that the fake call centre could be linked to Shaggy. All the arrested in the case are presently in judicial custody.
