THANE: A father-son duo and one other person was sentenced to life till death for the murder of an RTI activist in 2016 in Mumbra. A fine of Rs 10,000 each was also imposed on the accused.

Those convicted are Abdul Majid Kazi, 48, his son Mohammad Siddiqui Kazi 37, and Mohammad Usman Sheikh 48. The order was delivered by the Adhoc district judge and additional sessions judge Vasudha L Bhosale.

Additional public prosecutor Vinit Kulkarni told the court that on January 21, 2016, the victim, RTI activist Sajid Ansari, then aged 34, was brutally killed by the accused who attacked him with knife.

"The accused were angry as the victim had complained to the civic corporation about the gate of a housing complex which was allegedly illegal and was pulled down by the corporation," said Kulkarni.

As many as eight prosecution witnesses were examined to prove the charges against the accused and make the case watertight, leading to their conviction.
