Traffic police ban heavy vehicles for 9 days during Navratri in Kalyan city

KALYAN: Kalyan residents, often troubled by severe traffic congestion, are expected to get temporary relief this Navratri as the Thane Traffic Police have announced a nine-day ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat issued a notification stating that the restriction will remain in force from September 22 to October 2, 2025.


Every year, lakhs of devotees visit the Durga temple at Durgadi Fort during Navratri. To manage the crowd, the route from Durgadi Chowk to Patri Pool via Govindwadi Bypass is closed, diverting traffic to major city roads. This diversion, combined with heavy vehicles, often leads to severe jams across western Kalyan.


After unprecedented gridlocks during Ganeshotsav, the decision is seen as a crucial step to ensure smoother traffic flow. Citizens have welcomed the move, hoping it will spare them long hours of being stuck during the festive season.
