ULHASNAGAR: A Ulhasnagar-based businessman, Pravin Kishnani, received threatening calls from gangster Ravi Pujari's gang members. They allegedly threatened him and his father, Godhumal, to stay away from testifying against the underworld don in an upcoming hearing in a 10-year-old case in which Kishnani's father is the complainant against Pujari.
Following the threat call, on Pravin's complaint, the local Central police registered an offence against an unknown caller.
In 2014, Pujari demanded extortion money of Rs 5 crore from Pravin's father, Godhumal Kishnani, and the hearing of the case is ongoing in Ulhasnagar court.
Pravin told TOI, "I was getting international calls for more than one month, but I was avoiding them. On 30 November, when I picked up the call, the caller, claiming to be from the Pujari gang, asked me and my father not to give a statement against Pujari in court, in which my father is the complainant, or else we were threatened with dire consequences."
Shankar Shivtade, Senior Police Inspector of Central Police Station, said, "We have booked the unidentified caller, and a probe has begun to search for the accused."
The Kishnani family is involved in the liquor and real estate business in Ulhasnagar.
The police suspect that the Pujari gang may have threatened Pravin as they probably fear that their testimony could lead to further legal problems for the gang and the gangster, who is presently lodged in a Karnataka jail after being arrested and deported from West Africa.
