Zumba contest, Maharashtra Day events steal show at Happy Streets
Thane: The four-week-long zumba competition came to an end with the grand finale on Maharashtra Day at the TOI main stage amid mad rush. Four youngsters clad in yellow T-shirts emerged champions. They bagged the coveted trophy, certificates from TOI and passes from Adlabs Imagica.
The winners — Bhagyashree Sisodia, Nihira Patwardhan, Gauri Kulkarni and Sayani Chaterjee — had put in a lot of effort and trained themselves in intricate moves and steps of zumba for over a month. They formed a group called ‘Silver Band Girls’ to compete in the show among 20 such teams. “We worked relentlessly to become champs,” said the youngsters in unison.
The group called ‘Dancing Queens’ finished runners-up. They were Ananya Shanbhag, Kanika Tuteja, Harshini Bhatia, Janavi Pathare and Khushi Bhatt. The winners and runners-up teams were awarded by Suchisraba Kar, manager sales, Adlabs, and Apurva Gupta, senior vice-president of Vijay Group.
Vijay Group and Suraksha Realty Art Zone had many activities to celebrate Maharashtra Day. Drum circle arena had activities like acoustic, clay art painting with music and kidz painting to commemorate Maharashtra Day.
Another event that attracted many people was kabaddi. Anand Gore (15) was quite excited to play the game on a mat. “I was delighted to see the arrangement of the game inside a proper ring cordoned off by barricades with crash pads all over to save the players from fall and injury,” said Gore.
A kabaddi arena was created by Star Sports to allow participants experience the feel of Pro-Kabaddi.
RGS Unknown Talent Academy of Dance and Aerobics volunteers had a 15-minute performance on the main stage, celebrating Maharashtra Day.
Adlabs Imagica created a Fun Zone where they brought in two of their mascots to interact with the crowd.
Happy Streets is an initiative of Thane traffic police, TMC, Vijay Group and Suraksha Realty and supported by TOI where people come up with new ideas to create wider awareness in the society on various fronts, while being engrossed in activities related to sports, fitness and good health, environment, culture, art and entertainment.
