Thiruvananthapuram: A three-day film fest featuring six fiction films directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and three documentaries on the life and work of the legendary filmmaker will be conducted in connection with the 50th year of Adoor's association with cinema and his 75th birth year. The screening of films is being organized by Federation of film societies of India, Kerala chapter at Lenin Balavadi, Vazhuthacaud, on August 14,15 and 16.
The programme will be held in various cities across the state and will kick off with screenings in the capital city. Adoor's classics like 'Swayamvaram', 'Elipathayam' and 'Mathilukal' feature among the six fiction films to be screened as part of the programme. The screening will begin with 'Nizhalkuthu' at 10am on August 14. Swayamvaram, his maiden feature which won national awards for best film, best director, best actress and best cameraman in 1972, will also be screened on the same day.
Almost a decade before Adoor made his first fiction, he had begun his works with short fictions and documentaries around 1965 making films like 'A Great Day', 'A Day at Kovalam' and 'Myth', a 50-second short fiction.
The films will be screened using blu-ray projection. "National film archives have digitized his films and we will screen digital copies in blu-ray projection," said V K Joseph, secretary, federation of film societies. The event will also celebrate the formation of first film society in Kerala, Chithralekha, which was founded by Adoor.
A seminar on films and life of Adoor will be organized on August 16, which will be attended by film scholars and critics, including C S Venkiteswaran, Vijayakrishnan, Meerasahib, Chelavur Venu and V K Joseph.
Three documentaries on Adoor, 'Bhoomiyil Chuvadurachu' directed by Vipin Vijay, 'Lights on Adoor' directed by Prasanna Ramaswamy and 'Images/Reflections' filmed by Girish Kasaravalli will also be screened.
