5-star hotel to host CPM meet
Thiruvananthapuram: Finding the moderate facilities at the AKG Centre inadequate to host the first ever central committee meeting of the CPM to be held in the state capital, the CPM state committee decided to ignore woes of demonetisation and has booked the majestic conference hall at five-star Hotel Hycinth, near Thampanoor as the venue of the three-day conclave.
The central committee will be held from January 6 to 8 at Hotel Hycinth while the politburo meeting to finalize the CC agenda will be held at the AKG Centre on Thursday.
A public meeting is scheduled to take place at Putharikandam ground here on January 7 evening and the party will parade over 50,000 workers from various parts of the district as part of the meeting. “The public meeting is scheduled on January 7 so that all the CC members would be able to attend the same. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Biman Bose will address the meeting,” said party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
Kochi and Kozhikode had earlier hosted the CC meeting. “It’s a practice that the CC meeting in January-February is held outside Delhi. Generally, Kolkata or Chennai are chosen as the venue of the meeting. Thiruvananthapuram was selected as the venue after the party central leadership asked the state leadership to host the meeting in Kerala this time,” he said.
Leaders attending the crucial CC which will discuss national political scenario including the impact of demonetisation and assembly poll in UP, will start arriving from Wednesday. General secretary Sitaram Yechury and PB members A K Padmanabhan, M A Baby, Prakash Karat, S Ramachandran Pillai, Surjya Kanta Mishra and Hannan Mollah will reach here on Wednesday night. Tripura CM Manik Sarkar will reach by Wednesday evening. Subhashini Ali, B V Raghavalu, Mohammed Salim and Tapan Sen will reach on Thursday.
