Farmers’ Day events held across Thiruvananthapuram district

Thiruvananthapuram: Food and civil supplies minister G R Anil reaffirmed the state govt's commitment to safeguarding the interests of farmers through a wide range of welfare schemes. Speaking at various events held as part of Farmers' Day celebrations across Krishi Bhavans in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, the minister emphasised the proactive steps taken by the department of agriculture development and farmers' welfare to support and promote farmers in the state."LDF govt introduced several farmer-centric initiatives to protect both agriculture and the farming community. These schemes have been crucial in shielding Kerala's farmers from the adverse policies of the central govt," said Anil. He noted that greater cooperation and participation from the farming community would help further improve these welfare programmes. The minister urged more farmers to engage with the govt's schemes to maximise their benefits. As part of the celebrations, farmers from various sectors, including young farmers, dairy farmers, paddy cultivators, banana and vegetable growers, were honoured at events held under the leadership of different Krishi Bhavans. A symbolic harvesting event was also conducted at Thachappally and Ooruttambalam under Pothencode grama panchayat, where ridge gourd crops cultivated by local farmers were harvested. The celebrations saw wide participation from local self-govt leaders. At the event in Pothencode, grama panchayat president T R Anilkumar presided over the function. At Manikkal, the meeting was chaired by panchayat president Kuthirakulam Jayan. In Nedumangad municipality chairperson C S Sreeja led the event, while in Karakulam, panchayat president U Lekha Rani presided over the proceedings. Block panchayat presidents, vice presidents of grama panchayats, standing committee chairpersons, councillors, panchayat members, Krishi Bhavan officials and farmers from across the region took part in the programmes.
