, opened for performance here on Monday.

Jaleo Mahal, a venue to host dance performances of differently-abled, which is an esteemed project of Magic Academy in association with city corporation and Kerala Social Security Mission under the social justice department, was formally inaugurated by former high court judge justice Kemal Pasha in the presence of dancer and actor Laksmi Gopalaswamy. The event was presided over by Soorya Krishnamoorthy.

The Different Arts Centre, a project put forward by the Child Development Centre (CDC) and state health department, aims to empower children suffering from mental and physical illnesses and other disabilities by giving them an opportunity to socialize and also explore their artistic skills. In the initial phase, the academy has selected 100 differently-abled children to train them in developing their overall skills to perform at the Different Arts Centre.

On the inaugural day, Vandana, the artist who garnered wide attention after dancing with one leg, staged a mesmerising Kuchipudi performance at Jaleo Mahal. Dancer Lakshmi Krishna, who is autistic, also performed at the function.

Around seven venues are being built at the different Art Centres – exclusively for differently-abled kids, of which around three venues have been inaugurated. At a time when the venue Jaleo Mahal hosts dance performances, the venue ‘India Fort’ will host magic shows while the venue ‘Beethovan Bungalow’ will host musical programmes. The rest of the venues will host film, paintings, actings and other art performances.
