MP to appear before the court on May 10, in connection with a petition that accused Tharoor of portraying Nair women in bad light in his book ‘The Great Indian Novel’.

The court had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Tharoor for not appearing before the court despite issuing a summons against the writer-turned politician.

The petition was filed by Sandhya Sreekumar, a member of NSS Perumthanni Karayogam in 2019. Sreekumar said certain portions in the book were defamatory in nature to Nair women and the sale of the book in the current form should be banned by the court. Page number 85 in the book portrays Nair women in bad light, the petition filed during the last Parliament election time stated.

Tharoor had earlier claimed that he was unaware of the summons and thus justified his failure to appear before the court last time.
