THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local self-government (LSG) minister M V Govindan inaugurated the smart vending zone at RKV Road here on Sunday. The project was implemented as part of the Smart City scheme.

Out of the 46 vendors, 34 have designated shops with 18 having live cooking facilities while 16 without it. The other 12 vendors would be accommodated without roofing. The relocation of street vendors from Napier Museum exit gate to RKV Road will clear the cluster and open the space for landscaped waiting areas for museum visitors

The RKV Road beginning from the Museum Junction up to a stretch of 200m has an average width of 14.5m. The road has the capacity to accommodate vending on one side and has a segregated carriageway of 7.5m. This stretch has a parking facility for 30 cars and 50 two-wheelers.

The vending zone is designed along this stretch that is 6m wide and has a carriageway of 7.5m.
