THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state human rights commission (

) has intervened to ensure justice for physically handicapped (PH) candidates who had been denied posting by public service commission (

PSC

) despite their names figuring in rank lists.

In its directive, the rights panel asked PSC secretary to initiate necessary steps, based on a petition by candidate

K Madhu

who topped the rank list of candidates to the post of deputy collector two years ago.

This comes in the wake of the PSC decision to handover the file regarding appointment of PH candidates based on backlog to the state. Though the file is with social justice department, officials at the department have decided to convene a joint meeting of all concerned department heads to arrive at a decision over appointment of PH candidates based on the backlog. "A meeting of the secretaries from the concerned departments will be held soon to arrive at a decision on the appointment of the disabled based on the Supreme Court directive," department secretary A
