Teen girl, brother threatened at knifepoint, probe launched
T’puram: Neyyardam police on Wednesday registered a case and launched an investigation after a teenager and her brother were allegedly threatened at knifepoint by two youths near Neyyar bridge on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 4.30pm when the girl’s brother had gone to pick her up from school. According to the complaint filed by the family, two youths arrived on a motorcycle and intercepted the brother’s bike near the bridge. One of the accused allegedly threatened the youth by placing a knife against his stomach. The second accused allegedly held a knife to her neck and threatened to kill her. The accused fled the area after locals rushed to the spot on noticing the commotion.
The complaint identified one of the accused as Imam Thangal of Konniyoor and a former student of the school. The family alleged that he had been stalking and harassing the girl for some time. They claimed that despite repeated objections from the family, the accused continued to follow her.
According to the complaint, after the girl rejected his advances, the accused allegedly made threatening phone calls to the girl, her brother and father. He is also accused of using abusive language and issuing death threats to family members.
Following the incident, the girl’s parents approached Neyyardam police and lodged a complaint. A complaint was also submitted to Childline seeking intervention in the matter.
Police began a probe to trace the accused.
