Thiruvananthapuram: V Surendran Pillai, who is set to part ways with the LDF, is likely to be the UDF candidate in Nemom if the Janata Dal (U) is forced to contest the seat. The party has already asked the Congress to swap its Nemom seat with Kovalam but the Congress is yet to respond.

The JD (U) state leadership meeting is expected to announce the party candidates in its remaining seats on Monday. It has only announced candidates in Kalpetta (M V Shreyams Kumar) and Kuthuparambu (K P Mohanan) now.

However, the JD(U) seats have not been finalized yet as the Congress has taken back its Ambalapuzha seat. The party is not keen on the Punalur seat offered to it. The RSP has accepted the five seats-Chavara, Eravipuram, Kunnathur, Aroor and Attingal-offered to it. The discussions with the IUML, which has been demanding Karunagapally seat instead of Chadayamangalam offered to it, are pending.

The party had given its Eravipuram seat to the RSP and demanding Karunagapally instead. However, the Congress is facing a resistance from its local unit to hand over the seat to the IUML. It has been conveyed to K M Mani that there was no question of providing more seats to his party and the KC (M) will have to be satisfied with 15 seats.
