Thiruvananthapuram: If you are interested in the police force and want to know whether you are fit for the job, head straight to the pavilion of the state police department set up as part of the ‘Ente Keralam’ mega fair at Kanakakunnu Palace.
You will have to take 10 pushups and 15 pull ups at a stretch. Then you are fit for the job and can take a picture at the ‘selfie stand’ kept at the pavilion.
In a bid to raise public awareness and build a strong bonding with the people, the state police department has displayed an array of the services they offer and facilities they own. The wireless communication devices, from the very old

Another major attraction of the pavilion is the way the service of the fingerprint bureau is explained. How it helps in various crime investigations is explained in detail. The bureau’s data bank has a collection of 1.5 lakh fingerprints of criminals, and it makes it easier for the police to find criminals by matching with these available data.
The newly developed facial recognition system, functioning of the bomb squad,

The various instruments - from metal detector, explosive detector and advance diffusing devices of the bomb squad - are also on display at the stall. The women self-defense team provides tips to the women visitors on how to escape if they are attacked by miscreants. The people also get the opportunity to have a selfie with the police horses.
The added attraction of the event is the dog show in the evening. Eight dogs from the canine squad are part of the show. There are demonstrations on how dogs are used for detecting drugs, bombs and cadaver. The exhibition will conclude on June 2.
