Walkathon held to promote healthy eating

Thiruvananthapuram: Following the guidelines of the national health and family welfare department, the district food safety department organised an ‘Eat Right' walkathon in the city on Saturda. The walkathon, which was held from Kowdiar Park to Kanakakunnu Palace, was flagged off by district collector Anu Kumari.
The walkathon was organised to spread the message 'Eat Right India - freedom from diseases and the freedom to make healthier food choices.'
NCC cadets from various colleges in the district and children from Sri Chitra Home participated in the walkathon. Subsequently, NSS volunteers from Kattakada Christian College presented a flash mob and a play on the theme ‘save food share food' at Kanakakunnu.
As part of the campaign, a seminar and awareness programme on the importance of millets and fortified foods will be organised at the Bhagyamala Auditorium in Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, on Tuesday. The event will involve college students, with sub-collector Alfred OV as the chief guest.
Following this, a food fair will be organised to convey the importance of millets and fortified foods to the public. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of various competitions, and certificates will be distributed to institutions participating in the food safety department's eat right challenge.
