CB CID police question activist Mugilan for 3 hours in Karur

He was arrested in Chennai early this month based on a sexual harassment complaint against him. However, he refused to cooperate with the inquiry, alleging ill-treatment by CB CID. He claimed he was not allowed to talk to his lawyer.
The court then adjourned the case to Tuesday and allowed access to his lawyer. While opposing the CB CID inquiry, his lawyer Kennedy asked why another inquiry was required when police completed its inquiry before July 7.
Listening to both sides, the court allowed the CB CID to carry inquiry for three hours. After the interrogation, Mugilan was again produced in the court and his remand was extended till August 6. He was taken back to Trichy and lodged in central prison.
Earlier on the day, when police brought Mugilan to the court, he removed his shirt and raised slogans against police alleging ill-treatment from them. Seeking action against police for ill-treatment, Mugilan alleged that police is conspiring to kill him in the jail.
Coordinator Tamil Nadu Environmental protection movement, Mugilan went missing in mid of February this year when he was travelling on a train to Madurai from Chennai. He went missing a day after he released a video in a press meet in Chennai with evidence on alleged orchestration of shootout against anti Sterlite protestors by Tuticorin police.
Following sexual harassment complaint against Mugilan by a woman, Kulithalai AWPS booked case under 3 different sections including section 417 of IPC for cheating on the pretext of marriage and section 376 for rape. The case was later shifted to CB CID. Mugilan resurfaced 140 days after he went missing and was found in Tirupathi railway station from where he was brought to Chennai where he was arrested by CB CID in connection to the sexual harassment complaint.
