TRICHY: Condemning the BJP government at the Centre for not doing anything to control the Manipur violence, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of India.
Speaking to reporters in Trichy, Mutharasan said that the state of Manipur has been burning with two communal groups indulging in clashes leading to violence since May this year. “More than 250 people lost their lives besides houses and commercial establishments being burnt down to ashes,” he said.
He blamed the central government for not protecting Manipur. “They should have held peace talks with both the groups. I am wondering as to why the BJP at the Centre and the state are letting such violence happen. The Prime Minister should apologise to the people of the country by taking responsibility for the issue,” he said.
Mutharasan also hit out at the Prime Minister for opening up only after the Supreme Court of India warned the Centre of passing orders if the latter remained silent on the Manipur violence.
He alleged that the BJP let the violence go uncontrolled with an intention to capitalize their political mileage during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
On stitching together a grand alliance against National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP, the CPI leader said that India will have a bad time if the NDA comes back to power. “So, the parties upholding the democracy have joined together under a front named INDIA,” he said.
CPM, Trichy urban district also staged a demonstration near Thennur in Trichy demanding the Centre to resign for ‘failing to contain’ the violence leading to several deaths.
