Man held for threatening to vandalise Periyar statue

Trichy: The Trichy city police on Friday arrested M Modi Barani, a resident of Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district, for posting a message on X (formerly Twitter) threatening to destroy the Periyar statue installed in front of the Srirangam Renganathaswamy temple in Trichy.The tweet by Barani in his X account on August 6 was in reply to the ongoing controversy over the ‘eradicate Sanatana Dharma’ comment by the Udhayanidhi Stalin. Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) supporters took on Barani on the social media page leading to a slugfest. The message read that the statue will be vandalized on Friday. On coming to know of the issue, Trichy city police stepped up security in the area. tnn
