TRICHY: The Federation for Retrieval of Trichy Palpannai - Thuvakudi service road on Sunday passed resolutions announcing a series of protests to attract the attention of state government and political parties to expedite the pending service roads for Trichy-Thanjavur National Highway.
Even though the Madras high court has directed the state government in 2019 to complete the service road within six months for the 14.5km stretch on Trichy-Thanjavur NH between Palpannai and Thuvakudi that lacks service roads, the residents claimed that the land acquisition is incomplete.
“We want the land acquisition to be completed for launching the construction works in another 2-3 months. The state government has put the service road works on hold for about 22 months now,” S Sakthivel, chief organiser of the federation said.
As the highway falls under the constituency of Thiruverumbur MLA, also the school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Trichy Lok Sabha MP Su Thirunavukkarasar, the residents said that they would approach the elected representatives and other political parties to apprise the significance of Trichy-Thanjavur NH service road project.
In the past five years, over 180 deaths in fatal accidents were reported on the stretch lacking service road.
