2 criminals arrested after gunbattle in Ankleshwar

BHARUCH/VADODARA: Two hardcore

criminals

were

nabbed

after an intense

gunbattle

with the police team in the industrial town of Ankleshwar on Monday morning. Police got a tip-off that Brij Bhushan Pandey and Shashi Bhushan Pandey, the two hardened criminals, were sleeping in an SUV in the common plot of a residential society.


However, the duo somehow got a whiff of their presence when a team of nearly 20 policemen reached there to arrest them. Suddenly, they fired five rounds at the police team from an automatic 7.65 bore pistol. Cops also retaliated by firing five rounds, in which both suffered bullet injuries. The gunbattle raged for nearly one-and-a-half hours and two cops of Bharuch police also suffered minor as bullets brushed their hands.

One bullet pierced through Shashi Bhushan’s back and another hit his arm, while Brij Bhushan was hit in the back.

Rajendrasinh Chudasama, Bharuch superintendent of police, said that teams of rapid response cell, Vadodara, local crime branch, special operations group and local policemen of three divisions of Ankleshwar had rushed to Arunoday Society near Gadkhol Patia after getting information about the two. Brij Bhushan and Shashi Bhushan were sleeping in Mahindra XUV car GJ 6 HS 7353 parked in common plot of Arunoday Society.

They were taken to Vadodara for treatment. Police found a pistol, knife, hammer and seized the car from the spot.

Officials of Vadodara RR Cell said that the criminals might have come to meet some family members as their houses are located in the same colony.

Police believe that they must have found it unsafe to sleep in the house so that they slept in the car. The other gang members also live in the same locality.

“Once they are discharged, Bharuch police will take them into the custody for interrogation of the cases which are pending against them. Later, they will also be

arrested

in connection with cases registered in different districts,” said RR Cell sub-inspector H P Zala.
