BCA poll row: Banker threatens contempt plea over HC order violation

Vadodara: Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) presidential candidate Darshan Banker has said he will move a contempt of court plea against the association's management, alleging violation of the Gujarat high court's status quo order.Banker claimed that the BCA had convened an apex council meeting on April 3 to clear key financial and administrative proposals, in contravention of the court's directions. The meeting was later postponed."The agenda included financial and administrative decisions. The court has directed the BCA to maintain status quo and restrict itself to routine, day-to-day functioning till further hearing. However, the management led by the Revival Group sought to approve additional expenditure, ratify past expenses and clear capital expenditure. This amounts to contempt of court," said Banker, who contested the BCA president's post from the Royal Satyamev Jayate Group.The BCA had held elections for various posts on Feb 15, but the results have not been declared as the matter is sub judice before the Gujarat high court. Two BCA members had filed a petition challenging the eligibility of four candidates, including former cricketer Kiran More, who contested for the president's post from the Revival Group.Last month, the high court disqualified all four candidates, following which they filed an appeal against the order. The matter is scheduled for hearing later this month, with the court directing the current management to continue in the interim.
