The victim has been identified as Meghrajsinh Parmar (25), a resident of Haripura village in Khambhat taluka of Anand district.

The video that had been in circulation for past couple of days shows a youth tied to the trunk of a tree and surrounded by a group of men and some even beating him up. It has now transpired that the incident had taken place on Monday.

Parmar registered an offence regarding the incident on Wednesday after knowing about the viral video. He has claimed that six persons beat him forcing him to pay money beyond what was due to them towards a tent that one of them had installed for his marriage.

The complainant stated that he got married on April 25. For the wedding he had given an order for a tent to Vijay Parmar, a resident of Badalpur. Meghrajsinh claimed that the rent of the tent was fixed at Rs 1,500 and was not able to repay Vijay due to paucity of funds for a long time.

About a month back, Vijay threatened Meghrajsinh that he would tie him to a tree and beat him up.

Meghrajsinh paid Rs 1,500 three days after Vijay's threats, but Vijay claimed that he owed him Rs 5,000 towards the tent and so, he should be paid another Rs 3,500. On Monday, when Meghrajsinh had gone to Badalpur, Vijay approached him and threatened him again.

Vijay took Meghrajsinh to the Ambika Chowk, a square in the village, and others including Vijay's father Ghanshyam Parmar, his brother Ketan Parmar, uncle Mukesh Parmar and two others Kamlesh Prajapati and Rahul Prajapati joined the gathering.

They then tied Meghrajsinh to a tree and beat him up, while Ghanshyam even used a stick to hit him.

Meghrajsinh's father Pratapsinh, who rushed to help Meghransinh with others upon coming to know about the incident, was also hit by Ghanshyam with the stick.

When a crowd gathered at the spot, Meghrajsinh was allowed to go by the accused. They, however, threatened him against registering an offence with the police. All the six accused were held by the police on Wednesday.
