Bankim Patel, uncle of Jessica Patel, who stays in the US, had recently registered a complaint against Chirayu Patel, a resident of Gotri area and Akshay Patel, a resident of Kheda.

Police said that the accused are the members of a gang that dupes unsuspecting people and blackmails them too. “Jessica had met the Chirayu through social media in 2015 and began chatting with him. Soon they became good friends. Chirayu then started asking for money from her,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime). Chirayu later told her that his mother was ill and needed more money for her treatment.

Patel trusted him and transferred him Rs two lakh but later both Chirayu and his friend Akshay Patel began demanding more money from her under some or the other pretext. Chirayu used to tell her that he is under debt and promised to return the money by selling his land. When he started demanding money frequently, Jessica became reluctant and refused.

But Chirayu started threatening her that if she doesn’t send him money, he would commit suicide and blame her and her parents in the note. Patel got scared and continued sending money to Chirayu. She blocked his number but he continued messaging her from different mobile numbers. The girl gave him Rs 50 lakh between 2015 and 2018. “She gave us all the receipts of the money transfer. We investigated the case and arrested the accused duo,” Jadeja told TOI.
