10-year-old boy killed in celebratory firing in Ballia

Varanasi: A 10-year-old boy died after suffering a bullet injury during celebratory firing at a wedding ceremony in Pandey Dera of Ganga Shivpur Diyar in Ballia district on Friday night.

Ballia ASP (South) Sanjay Verma said the victim was attending the wedding of his cousin sister when someone opened celebratory fire. The boy was hit and died on the spot. An FIR was registered on his father’s complaint and police teams are raiding to nab the accused, he said.

The firing triggered panic. The critically injured boy was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police reached the spot and began a probe. ASP Sanjay Verma said the man who fired has been identified and teams will arrest him soon. Elders ensured the wedding proceeded.
