Cattle smuggler arrested after police encounter in Mirzapur; 50 bovines rescued

Varanasi: A cattle smuggler was injured and arrested after an encounter with the Ahraura police team in Mirzapur district on Friday. The police rescued 50 cattle and recovered an illegal firearm and cartridges from his possession.According to reports, following the directive of the Mirzapur SSP Somen Barma, the Ahraura police team, led by the Inspector in Charge, Ajay Kumar Seth, succeeded in nabbing the notorious cattle smuggler identified as Mohammad Wasim, a resident of Manikpur in the Ahraura police station area. During the police encounter near the Kaalkaaliya River in Farhada village, the cattle smuggler was arrested with a gunshot wound to his right leg.The SSP said that he was sent for medical treatment under police custody, where his condition is stable. As many as 50 cattle (cows and calves), a 315 bore illegal firearm, two used cartridges, and one live cartridge were recovered from Mohammad Wasim. A case was registered at Ahraura police station, and further legal action is being taken.According to the police record, Mohammad Wasim has a criminal history of cattle smuggling. He was wanted in four cases registered with Madihan and Ahraura police stations under Section 11 DE of the Animal Trespass Act, Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Section 4/25 of the Arms Act.
