VARANASI: Lawyers of the Gyanvapi mosque management committee, Anjuman Intezamiya Masajid (AIM), argued before the district judge that 'the five women plaintiffs who have sought the right to worship the idol of Shringar Gauri inside the masjid, do not represent the entire Hindu community'.
After hearing the AIM side, district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha posted the matter for July 4 when the Muslim side lawyers will continue their argument on maintainability of the case.
During Monday's arguments, the team of AIM advocates said that in this petition the women plaintiffs have claimed rights for worshipping in individual capacity, a member of the team Akhlaqe Ahmad informed TOI. He added, "We mentioned that these women do not represent the entire Hindu community hence the claim, which is concerned to the entire society, is not maintainable."
"The district judge started hearing at 2 pm, which continued till 4 pm. The team of AIM advocates read paragraphs from 13 to 39 of the petition filed by the women plaintiffs and kept raising objections while challenging the maintainability of the case," district government counsel (civil) Mahendra Prasad Pandey said.
