VARANASI: The Hindu side in the Gyanvapi case has filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking hearing of all cases in the dispute on the lines of the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid case by a three-judge bench of the Allahabad high court.

The plea has been filed by Vishnu Jain, the counsel of Hindu women plaintiffs in Shringar Gauri case related to the Gyanvapi mosque compound.

Jain was in Varanasi on Saturday to appear before the district court for hearing in suit no. 18/2022, Rakhi Singh and others vs. state of UP and others, in which the women plaintiffs have sought permission to worship goddess Shringar Gauri and other deities inside the Gyanvapi mosque compound. The court deferred the hearing for Oct 19.

Jain told reporters that they have approached the apex court given the delay in the case. There has been no hearing in Gyanvapi cases in the district judge's court for the past 10 months, he added.

Jain said the hearing on their application, which was filed in Aug this year, will begin soon in the apex court.

"Despite the court commission and ASI survey report filed before the district judge court in suit no. 18/2022 after completing the survey of the mosque the disposal is due for months. Even after nine months of the opening of the ASI report on the Gyanvapi survey, the Anjuman Intejamia Masajid (Gyanvapi mosque management committee) has not been asked to file its objections," he said. He added that the court commission report's disposal is also due despite the submission of objections. The points of discussion in the suit should be finalised, he said.

He said the Sri Krishna Janambhoomi case should also be heard on the lines of Ramjanambhoomi case in the HC. He added that fast hearing of Gyanvapi cases is needed to avoid the possibility of contradictory orders by the courts, where currently other Gyanvapi-related cases are being heard.

Jain said the issue of the possibility of a contradictory order was raised as in a suit (no. 610/1991 Ancient Idol of Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar vs AIM and others at fast track court) in which an additional survey of the Gyanvapi mosque by ASI is being demanded.
