Pak prisoner released from Gorakhpur Jail

Gorakhpur: Pakistani national Mohammad Masroor alias Guddu, who was lodged in Gorakhpur District Jail, has been released following completion of legal formalities. On Wednesday morning, in a confidential operation, a team from Bahraich's Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) escorted him under tight security to Delhi. After completing formalities at the Pakistani High Commission, he will be handed over to Pakistani authorities at the Attari border on Feb 7.Gorakhpur jail superintendent Dilip Pandey said, "The Bahraich LIU team, in coordination with jail administration and security agencies, executed the transfer process smoothly. Stringent security measures were in place to prevent any disruptions during the handover."Masroor, a Karachi resident, was arrested in 2008 by Bahraich police on charges of espionage, treason, forgery, and conspiracy. In 2013, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Initially sent to Varanasi Central Jail in 2015, he was later transferred to Gorakhpur jail in 2019. With his sentence now complete, the Indian government has decided to release him, confirming no pending cases against him.
