Three arrested with Rs 14 lakh demonetized currency in Varanasi

VARANASI: The

Chetganj police

arrested three persons with

demonetized currencies

worth of Rs. 14 lakh on Tuesday night. The arrested persons were identified as

Ritesh Keshari

,

Rakesh Thawani

and

Pankaj Sarawagi

.

According to reports, acting on a tip off the police nabbed them in Girijaghar area around midnight. The police recovered the currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination, which is out or circulation after demonetization. The CO Chetganj

Satyendra Tiwari

informed that during interrogation they confessed their involvement in changing demonetized currencies in the past. One of them Ritesh owns a shop of changing old and damaged notes.

The arrested persons were booked under sections 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 413 (habitually dealing in stolen property), 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of IPC and sections 5,6, and 7 of Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017.
