, Dilawar Khan, and his wife lived with the decomposed body of their 30-year-old daughter for over a month in
Hathiyaphatak area
under the limits of
Katra Kotwali police station in Mirzapur district
. On Monday morning, police seized the body and sent it for postmortem.
ASP (City) Mirzapur PS Pandey said, “We are awaiting the postmortem report of the deceased Zeenat to know the actual cause of her death. As we have not received any complaint so far no decision has been taken yet to lodge a case.”
Police said Dilawar was living at his parental home in Hathiyaphatak area along with his wife and daughter Zeenat. “His two sons, Anwar and Aftab, are settled in Aligarh and had not visited their parents for the past three years,” police added.
Locals said Zeenat had died over a month ago. “The stench of the decaying body was being felt by us since a week after her death. We informed the police about it but whenever they visited the place, Dilawar told them to produce a search warrant for entering his home,” said a neighbour.
Pandey admitted that “people of Hathiyaphatak had complained about the stench but Dilawar never allowed the police to enter his house”.
