Varanasi: Sankat Mochan temple receives bomb threat letter

VARANASI: A letter threatening to blow Varanasi's

Sankat Mochan temple

was received by its priest Vishwambhar Nath Mishra on Monday night via post. The matter was immediately reported at Lanka police, and the letter was handed over to them. The police has started investigation in the matter. Several people were killed in a blast at the temple in 2006.


“I received the letter threatening to blow the temple in an envelope when I went to the temple on Monday night. The sender of the letter also claimed to have carried out blasts previously,” said the priest.

The SP (City) Dinesh Kumar Singh said that an FIR was lodged after receiving the letter and the matter is being investigated.

Varanasi was rocked by serial blasts at Sankat Mochan temple and Cantt railway station on March 7, 2006. At least 28 persons were killed and over 100 suffered injuries in the blasts.
